New Assembly Committee Chairs elected

Four new National Assembly Committees met on Wednesday July 11 and elected their Chairs. Jonathan Morgan AM was elected Chair of Health Committee. He said: "As the AM with the biggest Welsh hospital inmy constituency I am delighted to be Chairing the new Health Committee. The responsibility is enormous and I look forward to the challenge of balancing our scrutiny role in health and indeed local government which has been added to our brief. I know that the new committee will be effective in scrutinising and where necessary criticising government policy, and as the new Chair I will happily be forthright in my own opinions." Ann Jones AM was elected Chair of the Equality Committee. She said: "I am pleased to have been elected as Chair of the new Equality Committee. Passionate commitment to equality issues has always been a primary motivation for me and I am looking forward toworking with all committee members to ensure that WAG policies are effective in narrowing all the forms of inequality that continue to scar Wales." Janice Gregory AM was elected as Chair of the Communities and Culture Committee. She said: “I am very much looking forward to the challenge of chairing the new Communities and Culture Committee and working with other members ensuring that we can carry out effective scrutiny of WAG policy in such important areas as housing and community safety.” Gareth Jones AM was elected Chair of Enterprise and Learning Committee. He said: “The remit of this Committee is key to many challenging issues facing the people of Wales. I look forward to chairing the Committee and working with other members in carrying out effective scrutiny of the government.”
